My perspective is informed by unique experiences, shaped by the communities and people that have impacted. I continue to seek these opportunities and to forge an artist who is constantly improving, adapting, and engaging with the narratives I encounter.
I love working with watercolour and inks to bring hand-made illustrations to life. As a Fine Artist my work centres around mythology and symbolic forms, this informs my illustrating fueling my passion for storytelling. I also work in digital which I feel is important in today's illustrating environment and have come to value it as a tool like no other. I illustrate with many other media too, opting to be liberated to use whatever best suits that illustration, or best satisfies my client's commission.
In addition to illustrating I do portraits. Using watercolours, oil paints, and dry media to capture the emotive and genuine expression of individuals. I value getting the opportunity to work from life and make a point to do so as often as I can. I have worked hard to master likeness, capturing the aesthetic of the moment, and incorporating the unique subtleties that each person has.
I offer painting and drawing lessons, my lessons focus on working from life; figures, portraits, and landscapes. I teach my students to understand how to approach the process, the fundamental across all media, and the techniques associated with the materials. We master how to capture what is seen, how to build a narrative into every piece, and the etiquette of working in live environments.
I work with live models, and out in the actual scenes. A purchase-list will be given per request and students are expected to provide their own supplies. Some materials may be available during class to try out new materials. I work in the home or in the studio for private lessons and have classes and groups open to join held at the studio and other locations.
My teaching style is to communicate a philosophy that will enable continuous growth, and that will develop alongside you, I refer to this philosophy as the approach. It is a way of thinking and a procedural method that is designed to be adaptable and designed to be built upon. As this philosophy is built the tangible principles of the medium and the common techniques associated with it are learned. With these two objectives, my students are equipped to be able to keep learning from others and indeed teach themselves. Immediately they are able to interact with the materials, understand them, and create using them. They use these objectives to nurture what art means to them, whether a therapeutic hobby or a competitive opportunity achieving excellence in skill.
While these are my primary services I work creatively with all types of materials and am always learning and improving my craft. I can provide just about any artistic service.
As a performance artist, I competed and ran a team of jazz vernacular dancers. My wife and I met that way and we offer partner dancing lessons in swing, lindy-hop, slow jazz, and blues dancing.
I am also a board member of the Woodlands Art League which is a member organization of the Lone Star Art Guild. Here I am a webmaster and show chair, I manage the studio and Gallery space, teach classes, workshops, and provide art demos.
I have a lot to keep me busy but I am constantly inspired by what I do and the people I work with. I have developed a work ethic that keeps me on top of it all and delivers in a timely manner on all of my projects. I am truly blessed to get to do this work and am eager to share in that with you....
