I developed code, encapsulated in a Function Block (called an Add-on Instruction) in RSLogix5000. When implemented, this code monitors the efficiency of a PID Control Loop. I also created an object for Wonderware's System Platform that fits perfectly with the PLC implementation to relay this data to an Historian as well as making it possible to graphically display it to operators and maintenance personnel. To further improve on this, the implementation was taken further and integrated with a MES system. This made it possible to present High level reporting as well as further in-depth analysis, to ultimately optimise all monitored PID control loops and improve process efficiency and throughput.
