In 2022 only Americans have lost over<a href="https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/data-visualizations/explore-data"> $8.8B</a> to spam text frauds.
It is crucial to know how to block spam texts on your iPhone and make yourself safe. Here we will provide you with multiple steps in detail to ensure your safety.
 
How to Stop Spam Messages on iPhone:

 <li>Scroll down until you find “Filter Unknow Messages” and Turn it On.</li>

That’s it! Now if you go into the Messages App, you’ll see a tab named filter on the top left corner. Click on it and you’ll see filtered-out messages from known and unknown senders.
• You can disable the notifications as well for the unknown sender:

 <li>Now under Allow Notifications, you’ll see Unknown Senders, now Toggle it Off.</li>

This will stop the notifications you receive when unknown senders send a text to your iPhone.
Note: Once “Filter Unknow Messages” is turned on make sure to save all the known contacts as any messages from a number that is not saved in your contact will go directly to the Unknown Senders tab. Also, services like DoorDash, Uber Eats, InstaCart, and Amazon use different numbers to reach out to you so if you’re expecting a delivery or a package make sure to check the Unknown Sender tab.
 
How to block spam texts on iPhone:

 <li>Now tap on the contact name/number/email.</li>
 <li>Now tap on the info.</li>
 <li>You’ll see “Block this Caller” Click on it and again click on “Block Contact”.</li>

You can also Hide Alerts in the info by toggling it on.
Note: Once you block the contact, you’ll never receive any messages/calls/FaceTime calls from them. They won’t be notified that you’ve blocked them. However, they can still leave a voicemail for which you won’t get a notification.
• You can manage the blocked contacts to unblock them:

 <li>Tap on “Blocked Contacts”</li>
 <li>Swipe right to left on any contact and tap on Unblock / tap on Edit in the right top corner, then press the Red (-) button and then tap on Unblock.</li>

Report to Apple:

 <li>Then tap on Delete and Report Junk. (Note: You cannot report a message after you reply to it.)</li>

Report to your Carrier:

 <li>Now Copy the message that you’ve received.</li>
 <li>Now click on the Pencil icon in the top right corner and in the “To:” section put the 7726 number.</li>
 <li>Now Paste the message and click on the Green Arrow to send it.</li>

Note: Once your carrier receives several requests like this, it may take action against it.
Report to FTC: You can also report these spam texts to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Click on this link,<a href="https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/how-recognize-and-report-spam-text-messages#report"> FTC</a>.
Note: Reporting a spam message does not guarantee immediate action. Also, it doesn’t block the contact from sending you more messages. What it does is it helps Apple, your carrier, or the service you are reporting to build a database and prevent this menace from spreading. The more they receive this kind of report, the more spam contact can be blocked permanently, which will help other users as well.
 
Unsubscribe the Promotional messages:
You receive many promotional messages from companies like Amazon, Starbucks, and dealerships if you’ve bought anything from them and provided your contact number. If any of these services have instructions on their websites on how to unsubscribe, please follow them. You can contact their customer support if you don’t find any. Many of them ask you to reply “STOP” or “UNSUBSCRIBE”. Although we don’t recommend it, most of the time it is a scam to know if your number is active or not, and then it’ll be forwarded to many scammers to scam you, so only reply to it if you’re 100% sure of it.
 
Should you use third-party apps on your iPhone?
Many apps in the AppStore provide services like blocking spam messages and calls. Although not all of them are trustworthy.
