From Holland to children in Korogocho with love

This is a feature story on how one woman's kindness has changed the fortunes of children in Korogocho in Nairobi. Mary- Ann Sandifort and her husband Frank Masson had visited Nairobi on a personal tour when a chat with a waiter opened a world of exploration for her into the daily lives of children in Korogocho and the work of Father Alex Zanotelli, an Italian priest who had settled in Korogocho. Curious to know more about the projects that Father Zanotelli was implementing for the children in Korogocho, Mary-Anne made her maiden visit to the slum. So touched was she that she fell in love with these children and the people at Korogocho. Their determination won her heart and she couls do anything to support these children's dream for a better day. That is when she started supporting them to acquire basic education. One of them, Raphael Obonyo - who has risen to echelons of power in Kenya joined university and later set up community development projects including the Raphael Foundation for needy and disadvantaged children in Korogocho, which Mary-Ann supports to date.
