Maurice Robinson

I am a portrait photographer, a lover, a brother, an uncle and a friend.

My love for photography started when I was very young. My first camera was a Kodak 110 Instamatic, perfect for small hands, even though I don’t think I ever had small hands. I took pictures of everything, from family to dogs & cats to trees, whatever was around. I did learn though that with a film camera cost was a consideration. I didn't have much money so I learned to reflect before taking each shot. I learned to set up the shot, to pay attention to every detail in the frame. Sometimes it would take weeks to shoot a film cartridge of 20 exposures as I learned that I had to make each picture count.

I finished high school and college at North Carolina School of the Arts in Dance and Design & Production, and studied photography through the New York Institute of Photography. During this time, I carried my Canon AE-1 everywhere. I photographed classes and performances, head shots and resume shots, theatre and dance
