To exchange idea with men of other countries, and inventions for the use of future generations. Of cause the alphabet did not just happen. It was not invented by any one man. It come about, over many thousands of years, by slowly developing from picture-signs, and from symbols which stood for different words. When man started to link certain sounds with certain symbols, writing become possible. Messages from then on could be sent in the form of written letters, carried by special messengers or couriers.
