DEARS Development of Environment and Agricultural Research Society is a non-profit and non-political organization that has been working for social, economical and environmental development of the poor and marginal people of the southwest coastal region of Bangladesh since[removed]The previous name of DEARS was Manab Kallyan Sangstha MKS. The name was changed to DEARS in 2014 to address a government regulation.

☞ DEARS IS:
• Raising awareness about adverse effect of environmental degradation and climate change,
• Building capacity of marginalized communities to cope with climate change,
• Promoting adaptive technology for climate change adaptation and mitigation specially in agriculture, water and livelihoods,
• Conserving the bio-diversity of the Sundarbans mangrove forest and the coastal ecosystem,
• Creating access to quality education for underprivileged children,
• Organizing Sundarbans resource user community for sustainable resource management,
• Creating opportunities to get access primary health care services of vulnerable communities specially Sundarbans resources user groups in islands,
• Creating opportunities for vulnerable women, especially female-headed families to claims their rights and income security,
• Contributing to build a just society through sensitizing people for sustainable environment, human rights sounds practices and good governance.

☞ FOCUS ON GENDER ISSUES: 
It is the burning question of the day that women are tortured everywhere in various manners. They are deprived of all opportunities to lead their lives soundly. They are treated as commodities. Acid throw, rape, killing, suicide, kidnapping, dowry, divorce, child-marriage, beating, polygamy, separation with dependent children without maintenance and attention, attack on women’s chastity, malnutrition, migration to urban areas, injustices, widowhood, teasing and many others are the common phenomena of our organization. These are happened due to ignorance, illiteracy, poverty, superstitions etc. S.S will possess some activities regarding the gender issues. These are as follows:
1.Poverty alleviation of the poor women through self employment and income generating.
2.Rehabilitation of the disaster affected women and children.
3.Health care of the distressed women, pregnant mothers and their children.
4.Motivational program on personal and familial cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene in personal and familial life.
5.Training on reproductive health.
6.Awareness building against HIV/AIDS.
7.Women’s leadership growing.
8.Establishment of female equity and equal rights.
9.Elimination of sub-ordinate position of female community.
10.Co-operation with female empowerment growing.
11.Response to the immunization program with GO.

☞ DEVELOPMENT IMPACT OF THE ORGANIZATION:
The victimized women are now protesting against justice and their perception has been gradually increasing in arbitration meeting.

a.The women are also taking part in the Agricultural work, along with the men & their such participation has been increasing day by day . The role of woman in a forestation, got rearing, chicken rearing is superior to man.
b.The woman participation in increasing in family income generating activities along with the man.
c.The women are also getting the equal wages like the man counterpart.
d.Child marries, Polygamy has been decreased in the NGF each & every marriage is being registered. The citizens are aware of the ill effective of divorces.
e.The women are very much conscious of the planned family also.
f.The development group members are very much affectionate towards the disables. Maximum DEARS development groups are woman groups.The group members are very much interested to mobilize local/non-local resources.
DEARS personal procedures strongly consider the gender issue such as marriage, maternal & de-maternal leave, higher study leave etc. Special emphasis on women and child issues.

☞ Resource Capacity:
Currently DEARS has 07 staffs and the strength of DEARS is in its staff that possess of the targeted communities, especially the communities in Coastal Bangladesh. This known been acquired through working in the communities for more than 10 years. DEARS staff worker, Doctor, Nurse, Agriculturist, project manager and management experts etc.

DEARS has also Programme Organizers experienced in participatory methodologies, financial management skills, emergency response, environmental issues and participant DEARS developed an Emergency Response Group ERG comprising five skilled and expert including senior management, Moreover, DEARS also considers develop.

Emergency Response Volunteers Groups ERVG especially from high school and college students having equal participation of boys and girls. These volunteers groups will enhance DEARS’s capacity for save and rescue mechanism, providing first aid along with dissemination of early warning messages. 5. Social in-fracture development for disaster protection.

☞ Objectives of the project:
1. To apply modern technology for crab fattening
2. To decline crab mortality less than 20% in crab culture
3. To reduce production cost applying sustainable fence/net
4. To increase the income of the entrepreneurs
5. To create new entrepreneurs

7. To conserve the coastal bio-diversity
8. To make the opportunity to produce crab larvae

1. Selection of 200 dependable farmers and accumulate them
2. To examine water and soil and encourage farmers to do it
3. Collection crab from natural sources and meeting to connect farmers with depot owner
4. Nursing small crab in the ghers
5. Workshop for increasing consciousness among farmers about marketing system
6. To organize seminars 

☞ Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihood Support Program:
Bangladesh is agro-based country, most of the people of Bangladesh depend on agricultural production but as the most of the farmer are marginal poor, they can not give fertilizer or pesticide in their crop land, as result they do not get proper harvest. For this reason they are going poor to poor. In agriculture program is initiated to reduce their risk in cultivation by providing high sealing loan facility to buy fertilizer or pesticide. The poor marginal farmers do not get loan from national bank due to different difficulties from the aspect in micro credit program DEARS facilitate the poor marginal farmer by providing loan. DEARS gives both technical support and financial support to the marginal farmers.

Under the technical support DEARS provides them training on environment friendly crop cultivation, use of organic fertilizer, use of modern technologies and under the financial support program DEARS gives the marginal farmer with high grace period financial support. This financial support is specially provides to the diversified agriculture sector like 

i Crops sector e.g Rice, Wheat, Sugarcane, Fruits Vegetables etc.

ii Non-crops e.g Piciculture, Beef-fettling, Poultry, Animal husbandry, Agro forestry, by product processing etc. 

iii Equipments Purchase e.g Power-tiller, Troly, Rice husking machine, Power pump

iv Specialized activity e.g Sericulture, Mashrum culture, Salt culture, Nursery, Strawberry, Palm etc. Like paddy, fish culture, poultry, beef fattening their cultivation in different season and different crops, seasonal cultivation and business

☞ Emergency Relief Program:
The Organization supports the disaster victim by providing relief for immediate response. DEARS gives support to the disaster victim by providing foods, medical support, cloth and every emergence response.


☞ Quality Health Service and Access to Health Rights Program:
Being the working area of DRARS in one of the most remote area,-awareness level among the general people is very primitive and prejudiced. Moreover, their scope of treatment service attainment is very tough and scanty. To make poor people aware, non-formal education program are conducted and camps are arranged in the remote areas. To organize blood donation camp, Eye Camp, Body checkup camp, Blood grouping Camp, Medicare etc to keep the good health of the poor people.

5. To provide legal support for the torturing women’s and communicate to legality for various types of office and organization of the government and non government level. 
6. To inspire and motivate the mothers for their children’s primary school going. 
7. To aware the women’s for the safe water and sanitation.
8. To improve the quality of livelihood.

☞ Management of DEARS:
A General Council consist of 27 members is the supreme authority of organization. General Council assembles held annually. General Council is responsible for approve yearly budget, program, expenditure and necessary approval of policies. General Council is also responsible for selection/election of Executive Committee EC for two years. The Executive Committee EC consists seven members chaired by president/chairman. Executive Committee EC is responsible for organizational management, approve quarterly budget and expenditures, new projects and overall control. On behalf of EC Secretary of the organization is accountable for program management internal and external controls.
