Izuku Midoriya, a middle school student, is one of the twenty percent of people in the world who were born without superpowers. However, his goal is to become a superhero and enrol in UA High, the top Japanese school for would-be superheroes. He finds out that his idol, All Might, is dying and wishes to pass on his mantle after a tragic encounter with the greatest hero in history. Naturally, Midoriya has been selected as his heir.

Ultimately, this results in Midoriya becoming the next generation of heroes' trainer at UA High and gaining All Might's powers. However, when a gang of bad guys shows up seeking retribution, Midoriya and the other students feel pressured to either become heroes sooner or become a burden.

What kind of superpowers are we referring to then?

Superpowers are referred to as "quirks" in MHA. Marvel Comics' mutant powers, which include both spectacular talents and mutations like possessing wings or lizard-like skin, may be the closest analogue. While Midoriya's other classmate Tsuyu has a quirk that gives her frog-like abilities—sticking to walls and jumping long distances—and some of the physical qualities of a frog, including a long tongue, Bakugo, his adversary and friend, can make explosions in his hands.

All quirks have unique names; Bakugo's is "Explosion"; this is probably because the government keeps track of them. So, labelling them seems like a useful method to keep track of and group them, particularly if several people share the same oddities.

What then is the show's main focus?

The show focuses more on the protagonists' personal issues than the greater conflict between heroes and villains (those who utilise their peculiarities to breach the law) in the real world. Three themes recur in every series that appears in the comic anthology magazine Weekly Shonen Jump (some well-known examples are Naruto, One Piece, and Dragon Ball). These themes are friendship, struggle, and victory. Though everyone reads that differently, it usually signifies that people face challenges in their pursuit of goals but ultimately succeed in doing so with the support of their companions.

The goal of Midoriya's battle is to succeed All Might as a hero. All Might fights to be a decent teacher and come to terms with the fact that he won't be able to play the hero any more. Several other students have challenges related to pride, self-doubt, meeting family standards, and even experiencing maltreatment from their parents. Despite their superpowers, they are still ordinary teenagers going through high school, and their difficulties mirror that as well as the greater conflict between good and evil.

Why is All Might's appearance so dissimilar from that of the other characters?

All Might's design, with its sharp angular features and abundance of dark shadows, is more reminiscent of American superhero comics from the 1970s and 1980s than it is of more conventional Japanese heroes. Subsequently, the anti-hero Stain appears in the series. He resembles a cross between Spawn and The Maxx from Image Comics from the 1990s, with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles attire.

Although these design decisions are deliberate, they blend in well with the overall look of the programme. There is a great deal of visual variability because superpowers can occasionally result in major alterations to a person's appearance, depending on how they manifest.
