Stray Dogs are very common these days in every metro city in India.People often fear a stray dog, assuming that it will bite them.This kind of irrational fear is the major cause of dog bite cases.Most of the dog bite cases have been reported by kids. Recently I saw a 10 year old kid walking and seeking help from me to escort him to an idli shop for breakfast, the funniest thing here is a dog passed by him he started to get hysteric then ran away and sat in an autorickshaw, his fear is to an extent that he was demanding the auto driver to drop him to the idli shop which is not even 50 meter distance.The driver asked him to get up and leave, then he came back to me and asked me to take him to the pav bhaji Chaat stall, which is 500 metres behind. I escorted him there as a reward; he offered me breakfast to eat with him, first time in my life I ate samosas and jalebi for breakfast, and it was a unique experience, but I was dissatisfied as the boy didn’t allow me to pay the bill, and he cleared all the bills. Fear is a normal emotion that everyone experiences. it is normal to experience fear at times. Fear is of three types: rational, primal and irrational fear, but when it affects your normal life to an extent where you have difficulty dealing in public, then you need to seek professional help, which can help you to overcome fear to a certain extent.Many people are still reluctant to take professional help as the concept of mental illness and availing psychological counselling is not considered appropriate in our Indian society. Dogs are a domestic animal that is only 40–50 cms height.When you fear them, they can sense it some stray dogs deliberately scare you.Many people make a mistake by running away from a stray dog.That’s one of the major reason for dog bites.In some situations, dogs have bitten, and many have died from rabies infection.One of the unforgettable cases is the 11th August 2023 Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir, dog bite case of ASI Mohammad Rafik Naik, where a stray dog ran into the police station and attacked while the ASI was on duty.Not every stray dog is rabies-infected; they will not bite if you pass by them. In schools, teachers teach that a dog is a harmful creature, and it will bite you, which builds unwanted fear into the school-going kids. So if a kid sees a stray dog, the first reaction is fear.Then, witnessing a dog bite case, they stereotype that dog as a harmful creature.From my point of view, there is no need to fear them; every day, I go out for a one-hour walk in the morning.I speak to dogs, they understand my language, the instructions that I give them, especially the sign language. if I ask them to clear the footpath area, the entire group of dogs get down from the footpath to the road so that I can walk freely.It sounds funny but it is a real incident, my experience dealing with stray dogs is totally different.I used to own 2 German Dachshunds and 1 indian pariah crossed breed with German Dachshund. They had a soft corner for me as I loved them the way I loved myself.Stray dogs do understand love, friendliness and affection.They don’t deserve to be on the streets, The Indian government needs to start more shelter homes for stray dogs in every locality in each district, state-wise, as there are so many stray dogs in rural, semi-urban and urban areas where they can be given for adoption. Due to the presence of stray dogs, the food wastes are scattered on the roads and footpaths, making them unclean.So if there are no stray dogs in the streets, the entire streets and footpaths will be neater and cleaner like those roads and footpaths in European countries, GCC and Southeast countries.These days, few NGO are working on this concept, I am aware. No dogs are born as a strays; somewhere, we human beings are responsible for their misfortune.An old example of a female black Labrador dog being brought by a rich family, who raised her for three years, as this dog was lazy, overweight, and the family members got fed up with taking care of her.One day her son took the dog for an outing then stopped at a street food area served the dog heavy meal, then abandoned her over there and he drove the car, the moment the dog realized that her master left her she ran behind the car as much as she can but after 1 km the car went ahead and the black labrador stood there in the middle of the road.This is how a stray dog is born, the remaining are the continuation of millions of abandoned stray dogs’ descendants, which I would conclude in the case of a stray dog. Every stray dog has a story to tell, but no one is there to know about them.We human beings are above 100- 200 cms tall, but we irrationally fear these dogs, assuming that they have sharp nails and teeth, but we forget that we, as human beings, are capable of defending ourselves.Lack of confidence and irrational fear are one of the main reasons for this dog fear.The only solution to this problem is not to fear.The feeling of fear is associated with death. Stop fearing and start being brave is the only solution to this problem.Stray dogs will diminish from the streets someday, all over India, in metro cities.There will be a time when the streets in India will be free and clear like Dubai and Singapore, but the fear of human beings will always remain the same for some reason or the other.No one will be able to help you overcome the fear unless you want to overcome it.There was a time I had fear, but I decided that I am not going to hold on to fear; instead, I will conquer the fear.That’s all I have to say on this topic….
