John Grisham Somewhere For Every One

Grisham highlights plight of the homeless and how they are mostly harassed by the authorities without anyone taking notice or just looking the other way. He aims at revealing the problem of homelessness to readers who are mostly oblivious about the phenomenon.

According to Grisham homeless people are overlooked and avoided in his hometown left starving and in the cold

 I agree with John, not every person gets to have a home. People without shelter face many challenges. For instance, they are often exposed to infectious diseases, bad weather, and unsafe environments.. 
 
But the question is why the problem of homelessness a perennial catastrophe? What are its causes? Is it bureaucracy or laziness and is it an individual burden or a societal responsibility.

 Karl Marx when talking about social order talks of the proletariat (the rich) and the burgoise (the poor) and their exploitation. He explains that the rich exploit the poor by offering them meager wages which barely   satisfies their needs so as they can remain as their laborers and at the low level class. 

Is it that the rich exploit these poor homeless beggars so as to remain in the proletariat level and not enacting policies to help the homeless even when they are in a position and have the power to do so? 

Homelessness is not a twenty first catastrophe but it has existed since the count of time. But the numbers are now growing at an alarming rate the view of the world towards them has immensely changed .Earlier the Homeless people were viewed as a pool of laborers for the rich where they earned their 
Basic needs and got a roof over their head but this has changed, chiefly due to the education and the now complex bureaucratic structures of the government systems which created a new level of social class i.e. the middle class which has replaced them as workers hence the rich no longer pick them for labor but view them as dirty bugs who are supposed to be eradicated and a threat to their security and well being.

Homelessness maybe caused by various issues such as a birth defects disownment by family members, job layoffs and debts.

What is our responsibility towards helping the homeless out of the streets? Is it through dropping a 1dollar bill in to their borrowing cans?   

According to The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty and homelessness have been criminalized and panhandling taken as enough reason for arrest. But this ignores the whole situation of why the panhandlers are on the streets arrest undermines their rights and will only remove them for a few days and they will be back.

Serious measures have to be to be taken .streamlining the government is an important measure. 

But first these homeless people have to be recognized as citizens in their native countries  through issuance of national identity cards and birth certificates this even without outside help gives them a chance to seek for employment.

The government has to implement policies that are in line with the current economic status without creating unpredicted depressions and work layoffs. Wrong economic system causes high inflation which as a result leaves people with high mortgages which are impossible to pay hence leading to eviction.
The education systems should be structured in a manner that encompasses the arts subjects as it does with sciences so as to embrace everyone  

More so it is upon the society to embrace the poor and homeless as a less fortunate part of the community and not as a burden to the community this prevents acts of desperation from this people. Which if triggered though hunger and lack of medical support, causes lack of control and violence to achieve their basic needs albeit force. Besides, their predicament might compel them to take part in vices such as drug abuse or prostitution and muggings. 

In trying to solve this vices it is crucial that the authorities addresses the root problem and not just cut off the branches which only sprouts others. The authorities should seek to provide an alternative source of livelihood other than crime. seeing that most of the homeless are physically fit and if given jobs they could work, the municipals should consider giving them jobs in street cleaning and collection of garbage this will not only divert their attention from crime but also will make them feel appreciated and useful.

 It is indeed lamentable that due to being treated as low life the homeless they do not get access treatment, government services or legal justice as a judgment is already passed upon them as criminals

It is the responsibility of the government and society to implement clear plans to end homelessness empower them and build their self esteem for them to regain control of their lives again, through rehabilitation and mentorships and support forums

But then there is an overlooked possibility that these homeless people do indeed have relatives who would take care of them the government should create a forum for their placement and aid in locating them. 

With the numbers growing, how do we stop them? How do we stop more people from ending up in the streets? Adapting with the improving technology is the chief option with more work duties being mechanized. Long term saving should be a necessity for every homestead. For those already in the streets they should be given family planning advice this prevents procreation in the streets which only adds more burden
  Providing financial assistance, rehabilitation, and transitional housing are some of the solutions for homelessness. Not only should these services be available but they should also be accessible to them in the streets.

Sensitization through seminars and street public addresses are crucial to sensitize them on importance of working as a source of livelihood boost their esteem this provides a great avenue to interact with them and learn some of their skills.
