<span>Do you ever dream to be that
performer or that artist or the business leader who performs an act or delivers
a speech on stage and people all around him feel that he owns the stage, the
cheering crowd, and the subject he is delivering / performing? We watch movie
stars, performers and leaders in different fields with awe and admiration and
wonder how charismatic and inspiring they are when speaking or performing to a
crowd.&nbsp; Almost 70 percent of Bollywood super
star Amitabh Bachchan’s charm lies on his excellent dialogue delivery or in
general his spoken words. His immaculate speaking style, quick wit, and
confidence with which he addressed each situation made the TV show Kaun Banega
Crorepati&nbsp; a top money spinner for many
years and a therefore a huge success. When another popular Bollywood character
actor Anupam Kher hosted a similar themed show “Sawal Dus Crore Ka”, it fell flat
on its face. Well, one of the major reasons that were discussed among viewers
was that the otherwise very talented actor did not have the level of charisma
in speaking skills to impress the audience. There are many business leaders and
political leaders who not only impress but also inspire people through their
speeches. And there are many who sound just outright monotonous or boring even
if they are talking about very novel or interesting subjects.</span>

So, what do these inspirational
figures have in their speeches that other peers of them don’t have? What is so
different they speak that people across age, gender or society like them alike?
Well, first of all, they don’t have glassophobia. Or rather, even if they had
glassophobia, they have got over it well and long ago. You might be wondering,
what is galssophobia that is hindering the pathway to achieving your dream.
Well, don’t google it yet, and take the quiz below first to see if you don’t
need to worry about glassophobia and already have it in you or some polishing
acts are required before you start your dream-run.

Do
you feel a) nervous or b) enthusiastic when asked to give a presentation or
address a crowd on a topic that you are well-versed with?

Simply
put glassophobia is the fear of speaking in public. One needs to understand
that talking to people one-on-one and talking to a group of people or a crowd –
both need good speaking skills. But a person who speaks confidently or speaks
fluently in one-on-one interactions does not necessarily be a good public
speaker. He/She still may have glassophobia. So, for all of us glassophobics,
is there any hope?

If
you feel you may have mild or severe form of glassophobia, do you need to feel
demoralized? Not so fast. If it helps to boost your morale, the news is that Abraham
Lincoln had glassophobia among many other famous and successful personalities.
Just that they learnt how to deal with it and get over it. Few simple and
time-tested techniques can help us get over glassophobia or milder forms of it
(let me call it stage-fright).

First,
practice makes perfect. Rehearse your act many times even if you are very
confident of the subject. Rehearsing out loud, dressed similar to what you will
be wearing on stage, timing it and wording it help the most.

During
the act, ignore looking specifically at audience. There will always be a few sleepy,
disinterested or the bored looking audience. So, best way to avoid them is to
sweep your eyes across the audience without making specific eye-contacts. 

Move
around a bit and keep your hands free. It helps to relax and feel energetic.

Don’t
try to cover too much or too little content in the time allotted. How will you
know? Go back to the first point and you will figure out the right amount of
content.
