The Earth is covered with a large area of forest and vegetation. It is a means of shelter and livelihood for most of the living being on the Earth. But in the past few decades, deforestation is becoming the major issue of concern as more and more trees are cutting at a fast rate in a way of making of roads, croplands, buildings and man-made structures. 

       
             Meaning Of Deforestation

Deforestation or clearing is the elimination of a forest where the land is thereafter transformed to a non- forest use.

Deforestation is the clearing down trees from a region with no intention of planting of future trees. 

The cutting of forests by human beings refers to deforestation.


      Disadvantages Of Deforestation

1. Destroys The Habitat.

Forests are a habitat for a large number of animals and birds. But deforestation has reduced the number of forests in the past few decades. The continuous cutting of the trees and the reduction of forests have resulted in the huge loss of the birds and animals. Thus deforestation leads to the extinction of species and animals on the earth.


2.  Floods And Fires.

As forests and trees help in the absorption of water. But due to the rapid deforestation, the capacity of the soil to absorb water has lessened due to which flooding and overflowing of river occur in many regions of the world. The burning of the treed has raised the fear of the forest fire which can the destruction of wild animals and birds living in the forests. 


3.  Greenhouse Effect

Deforestation has caused the increase in the level of carbon dioxide in the air which causes the greenhouse effect. Plants and trees produced oxygen in the process of photosynthesis which lowers the harmful effect of the greenhouse on earth. But as the deforestation increase, the rate of carbon dioxide also increases causing the greenhouse effect.


4.  Restricted The Supply Of Wood Or Timber.

Due to a large amount of cutting of trees the supply of wood also decrease which results in the lesser use of wood in the coming future as a source of wood will soon be perished from the earth in the process of deforestation.

Trees and plants are sources of many medicines for which they are used for several years but deforestation has badly affected this also. Destruction of forests and trees has also reduced the possibility of obtaining and discovering new medicines from the plants.

Deforestation is considered to be the main cause of global warming around the world as it has increased the level of atmospheric carbon dioxide in the air.

Trees and plants help in the rainfall as they transpire and release water into the atmosphere leading to the rainfall. Thus the natural water cycle has been affected by the deforestation leading to the lesser amount or no rainfall in many parts of the world causing drought in several places.


8.  Increase In Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide. 

Plants and trees help in the production of oxygen in the atmosphere and reduction of carbon dioxide from the air but due a large amount of cutting of trees has increased the level of carbon dioxide in the air and reduction of oxygen in the atmosphere has the bad effect on environment leading to the global warming.


9.   Development Of Drought. 

The deforestation has badly affected the natural water cycle leading to lesser rainfall or no rainfall in certain part of the world. It also causes the global warming. These factors have to lead to the rise of drought in various parts of the world which is a serious matter of concern.


10.   Lose Of Forests 

The rapid cutting down of trees and reduction of forests at a fast rate has increased the possibility of lose of all forests in the coming 100 years. This will also cause the extinction of the species.

The deforestation at a faster rate in past few decades has causes harmful effect on the environment which lead to floods, fire, drought thus causing harm to human beings and other living beings as well in past years.

The deforestation is an essential aspect in increase the greenhouse effect. The main function of the plants is to liberate oxygen the in the air thus maintaining the environmental balance. But due to the increase in the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere deforestation has introduced global warming. This causes the change in the climate pattern of the world due to which some places have very hot weather while some places have very cold weather.

Plants and trees help in retaining moisture in the soil making it fertile which helps in the growth of plants and agriculture in the land. But the cutting down of trees has causes soil erosion at faster pace thus making the soil of the certain regions infertile where crops and vegetation cannot be grown for agriculture.

Deforestation causes loss of the greenery and the beauty of an area as the land without trees does not seem beautiful at all.


It is seen and concluded that deforestation is one of the major threat which can be seen and witnessed for the whole world causing devastating effects on the climate and the environment around us. If some effective measurable steps are not taken against deforestation in coming years then it may give rise to disastrous effects in the near future.
