COVID 19 PANDEMIC: NEW NORMAL AND THE GLIMMERS OF HOPE FOR A BETTER TOMORROW

Posted: 7 months ago

The impact of Covid 19
pandemic on the world has been devastating. Economies across the globe lie in

shambles while people in
thousands continue ailing and losing their loved ones. Yet, in the midst of
this

calamitous tragedy, we are
witnessing the dawn of a new consciousness, paving the path for a new

normal. In our ongoing
battle against the invisible virus emerges visible and bright our spirit of
unity,

courage, strength,
resilience and hope.

A new revolution silently
brews with profound changes occurring in our families, communities and

society.

Amid the lockdowns,
traditional family values cherishing intergenerational bonds are surging back
into

our homes. As our children
participate in the household chores alongside their parents and grandparents,

they are learning important
lessons in inter-dependence, harmony and responsibility. In several homes,

even the age-old gender
norms seem to be crumbling as boys and men aren't shying away from domestic

tasks anymore.

In
shaking up the established order of things, the Covid 19 pandemic has altered
our outlook in

astounding
ways. For once, our jaw-droppings at the rich, glamourous celebrities and the
leaders of

historically
powerful nations have considerably diminished. While powerful leaders teeter
and popular

entertainers
run out of their businesses we find our new heroes. The doctors, nurses and the
humble

cleaners
battling the virus at the frontline, today, command the greatest respect.
Worldwide, with folded

hands,
people pin their hopes on the dedicated medical professionals - their saviours
- to save the lives of

their
loved ones.

At the
individual level, more than ever before, we are also questioning a world
propelled by

self-centeredness,
fast-paced, stressful living and attitudes of irreverence towards Nature. While
the

world halts from its usual
grind, we are gathering our lessons from this dark period. To navigate the

future, we need to create a
new moral compass. The new normal demands us to be more caring and kinder
towards our fellow beings, and more respectful of our planetary resources.

Today, uncertainty rents
the air and the return of our children to schools appears distant. Though, seen
from a different perspective, this situation is shaping our children’s psyches
and personalities in wondrous ways that their classrooms cannot. They are
learning to order their rooms, hang their washed clothes on the clothesline and
lend their parents a helping hand in cooking and other household chores. In
tasks like washing their dishes, they are appreciating the dignity of labour.
As such, in their minds, the value of taken-for-granted supportive staff ought
to alter dramatically. They are actively budgeting alongside their elders,
readily relinquishing fast food in favour of relishing simple homemade food. A
simple lifestyle such as this holds umpteen potential for a child to learn and
uphold just the right set of values for a lifetime.

Amid crises as we endeavour to build a
new normal, remember that though apart we are together. We may be walking in darkness but we are finding a new normal too. And it is on this very trail of new
normal that we see the glimmers of hope for a better tomorrow.
